Retirement income planning
Retirement income planning is about how the pieces fit together: what you will spend, what arrives from Social Security or a pension, and what you draw from savings.

Starting with spending
Most useful plans begin with a realistic picture of essential and flexible spending, then look at which sources could cover each.
Sources and sequencing
Social Security, pensions, annuities, taxable accounts and tax-deferred accounts each behave differently. The order and timing of withdrawals can matter for taxes and flexibility. A conversation can map these trade-offs without presuming one answer.
Uncertainty
Markets, inflation, health and longevity are uncertain. Plans are reviewed over time rather than treated as fixed forecasts.
Annuity contract considerations
Annuities are insurance contracts. Guarantees, including guaranteed lifetime income benefits where available, are subject to the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company. Product features, fees, withdrawal restrictions, and surrender charges vary by contract.
Questions worth asking
- 01What expenses are non-negotiable?
- 02Which income sources are guaranteed by someone, and by whom?
- 03How comfortable are you if markets fall early in retirement?
- 04Who else depends on this plan?
Limits and risks
Educational only. Nothing here predicts returns or guarantees that income will last.
