The timing question

Benefits generally depend on earnings history and the age you claim. Claiming at different ages changes the monthly amount. The best age depends on health, other income, marital status and personal priorities.

Using official tools

The SSA lets you create a personal account to review your earnings record and estimates. Checking the record for errors is a sensible first step.

Independence

PGW is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for the Social Security Administration or any government agency.

Questions worth asking

  1. 01Does your earnings record look right?
  2. 02How might a spouse or survivor be affected?
  3. 03What would you live on if you delayed claiming?

Limits and risks

General education. Benefit rules change and individual results vary. Confirm everything with the SSA.
