Put it on the calendar
Choose a recurring time to review the plan, perhaps annually, and name who attends. A review that is scheduled is more likely to happen.
Keep one folder
Plan document, amendments, fee disclosures, investment information, service agreements, meeting notes. Keeping them together shortens every later question.
Write down the why
If you keep an investment option or a provider, note the reasoning. If you change one, note that too.
Look at the people
Participation, deferral and enrollment patterns tell you whether the plan is working for employees, not only whether it is compliant.
Ask for help early
Your attorney, TPA, recordkeeper and any consultant can each speak to part of the picture. Questions asked early are cheaper to solve.
